EU-Navy Aircraft Carrier

Fictional future Aircraft Carrier for the EU-Navy. With a length of 356 metres, a beam (or width) of 80 metres and a displacement of 125,000 tons, she would be the largest surface warship in service in the world. Besides serving in a strict role as an aircraft carrier, the ship has also been fitted with 4 additional decks underneath the Gallery deck, to house a fully equipped hospital with a maximum capacity of 1,200 beds which enable her to serve as a disaster relief vessel as well. Besides housing a hospital and disaster relief facilities, these extra decks also house several other command- and control facilities, as well as crew leasure facilities such as a gym, an indoor swimming pool, a cinema and several bars and restaurants.

The ship would be either conventionally powered fuelled by LNG, with solar panels on the side for auxiliary power, or she can be fitted with a nuclear powerplant. The latter limits the number of ports she can visit and the total cost of installing, maintaining and disposing of a nuclear power plant over the life of the ship far exceed such costs when using convention power generation, but it would provide the ship with an almost unlimited range without the need for refuelling for at least 20 to 25 years. And the power output with a nuclear powerplant would also exceed the output of a conventional powerplant.

The aircraft carrier can carry up to 90 fixed wing and rotary aircraft and launch and receive them with a angled flight deck in a CATOBAR (Catapult Assisted Take-Off and Barrier Arrested Recovery) configuration, enabling the ship to launch (and receive) heavier aircraft in a fast pace. The fixed wing jets would be the 5th generation F-35C, or the 4++ generation Rafale M(arine) F4. Later, a European 5th generation aircraft could make up it's air wing. The fighter jets can be assisted by E-2D Hawkeye planes and upgraded C-2A Greyhounds as a carrier-onboard-delivery aircraft, providing critical logistics support. Several types of helicopters can also operate from the carrier.

Though an aircraft carrier remains a massive object on a radar, several stealth features have been applied to reduce her radar cross-section. Other new features include the installation of an Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System and a high degree of automation and use of AI, significantly reducing the number of crewman needed to operate the ship.
